The Sahara Desert has three desert types. These types explain
the way they were formed.
Inland – It is an inland desert in the South and Central parts
of the Sahara.
Coastal – It is a coastal desert because the West, North and
East edges are close to the sea.
Rain Shadow – It is a rain shadow desert because of the
mountains and mountain ranges in Morocco and
Ethiopia.

The Vegetation in the Sahara

The Sahara Desert contains many plants. Their most popular plants are the palm trees. They are common amongst oases and the Nile River, etc. There are also many shrubs and grasses. Barely anything grows elsewhere from the water sources of the Sahara Desert.
Water Sources
The animals and plants in the desert get most of their water
from the many oases that lie within the Sahara. In Egypt, the Nile River runs
through the desert. The Nile River is about 6695km long. Lake Chad is the only freshwater lake in the whole of the
Sahara.

Many animals live in the Sahara desert. They are able to live in
the Sahara Desert because of the small oases that are provided and the plants that grow there. They have also adapted to the environment. Here is a list of some animals in the Sahara;

Landforms
Most of the Sahara is made up of what is called ‘ergs’. Ergs are broad, flat plains with little or no vegetation growing
on the sand and gravel covered ground. There are also plateaus. Plateaus are flat and raised land. The Sahara is well known for the sand dunes though. Some reach over 180m high! There are also volcanic mountains in the country of
Chad.
